Below you will find the answers to our most frequently asked questions. To access the answer, click on the + above each question.

  • Why is my computer running slow?

    • There could be a number of reasons why your computer is running slowly. The main issues affecting computer speed are usually caused by Malware, Spyware, Viruses, and Startup Programs. The available RAM (Random Access Memory) and Hard Drive space could also contribute to poor performance.
  • Why is my Internet not working or running slow?

    • The more people using a single internet connection will greatly deminish the available bandwidth. There could also be problems associated with your connection, such as line work (Cable or DSL), power failure, modem reset, or router issues. Downloading files, streaming music, and/or video also affects available bandwidth.
  • How can I get Detailed System Information about my computer?

    • To obtain detailed system information you should use: Microsoft System Information, which is included with almost all Windows systems. To access Microsoft System Information:
    • 1. Go to Start > Run
    • 2. Type "msinfo32" into the field, without " "
    • 3. Click OK or hit ENTER
    • Note: If "msinfo32" doesn't work, try "msinfo".
  • Why won't my computer start up?

    • This depends on many factors, such as what type of computer (PC or Mac), what operation system (Mac OS, Windows XP/Vista/7, etc), what age of the computer. A simple checklist would be:
    • 1. Is the computer plugged into an outlet?
    • 2. Do any lights come on when the Power Key is pressed?
    • 3. Is the monitor plugged into an outlet & the computer?
    • 4. If plugged into a powerstrip, is the switch to the On position?
    • 5. Is the monitor On?
    • 6. Does the computer begin to start up and then stop?
    • If these steps don't help, please contact Stone Technology Consulting
